I am Alan Brown, and I proudly serve as the Member of Parliament for Kilmarnock and Loudoun. It's an honour to represent the wonderful people of this constituency, and I've been fortunate enough to do so since my initial election in 2015, with re-elections in 2017 and 2019.

My journey in public service began as a local councillor for Ward 6 Irvine Valley in 2007. Together, my SNP colleagues and I formed a minority administration, with me taking on the role of Spokesperson for Planning. During my time in this position, we embarked on an ambitious capital program to upgrade local schools and address the housing needs of our community. It was a fulfilling experience being part of a team that had a vision and ambition for our area after years of stagnation.

My connection to Kilmarnock and Loudoun runs deep. I was born and raised here, attending Newmilns primary school and then Loudoun Academy. My educational journey led me to Glasgow University, where I earned an Honours degree in Civil Engineering. I spent over two decades working in the engineering sector, both in the private and public sectors, with my most recent role being a Principal Engineer.

Beyond my professional life and political commitments, I have a range of interests that keep me grounded. I'm an avid supporter of Kilmarnock Football Club, and I make it a point to attend matches regularly with my two sons, Kyle and Dylan. I'm also a fan of the great outdoors, often taking long walks with my wife Cyndi. Camping and cooking are two of my favourite pastimes, and when it comes to music, I have a soft spot for bands like The Clash, Sex Pistols, Jesus and Mary Chain, and 80s/early 90s music.

My passion for community involvement started early, and I chaired the Newmilns Gala committee in 2006 to ensure a cherished local tradition continued. I was even invited to crown the Gala Queen in my early days as an MP, which was a delightful experience.

My journey into politics was inspired by my love for my community and a desire to serve it better. I never imagined I'd run for MP, but after contributing to local projects like the Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex, I felt a calling to higher-level politics.

In Westminster, I've had the privilege of holding various front-bench roles within the SNP, focusing on critical areas like energy, infrastructure, transport and pensions. My goal has always been to drive positive change in these policy areas and hold Westminster accountable for the interests of Scotland.

Currently, I sit on the Scottish Affairs Committee and hold several roles in All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), including chairing the Energy Costs and Infrastructure groups. View All

I previously held the following front-bench spokesperson roles:

  • Shadow SNP Spokesperson (Energy): 1 July 2018 - 7 January 2020

  • Shadow SNP Spokesperson (Energy and Climate Change): 7 January 2020 - 10 December 2022

  • Shadow SNP Spokesperson (Pensions): December 2021 - December 2022

  • Shadow SNP Spokesperson (Energy and Industrial Strategy): 12 December 2022 - 1 March 2023

  • Shadow SNP Spokesperson (Energy Security & Net Zero): 1 March 2023 - 4 September 2023

I am grateful for the trust my constituents have placed in me, and I will continue working hard, remaining approachable, and representing our area with the utmost diligence.

I was elected on the wider-SNP platform of "Standing Up for Scotland" and "Holding Westminster to account" - these will remain my governing thoughts while representing Kilmarnock and Loudoun at Westminster.
