Informal European Council (6 Feb 2017)

Alan Brown Scottish National Party, Kilmarnock and Loudoun

My wife is an EU national, and unlike Alberto Costa, neither she nor I have any faith in this Government doing the right thing unless we see actions on the rights of EU nationals rather than so-called warm words. If the Prime Minister sees herself as a leader, why does she not confirm the rights of EU nationals? That would also send a positive message to UK citizens living in other EU countries rather than their having to be a bargaining chip.

Theresa May The Prime Minister, Leader of the Conservative Party

I have been very clear about my intentions in relation to EU nationals living here in the United Kingdom, but it is only right and proper that the United Kingdom Government should also have a care for the UK citizens living in the European Union.
